Your Purchase Empowers Youth in Tanzania

Your purchase is making an impact peace by piece. I’m committed to donating 10% of each item sold to my amazing friends in Tanzania at Kinara for Youth Evolution (formerly called MOYODEI: Morogoro Youth Development Initiative) — an organization I’m deeply connected to after volunteering in the community for over a decade.

Kinara employs 8 local staff and last year supported over 60 youth in leadership roles. Each staff member has made a profound impact on my life and I feel lucky to continue volunteering remotely and supporting their amazing efforts through my love of creating beautiful pieces.

Engaging youth in sport, including football and netball teams for boys and girls, builds self-confidence, forms a positive group identity, and restores pride in their community. These girls have skills!

Through peer health education, after school English and math lessons, entrepreneurship groups and technical classes–like sewing and computers–Kinara is using education to help youth rise out of poverty, take control of their health and gain employment.

The humble office, located in the poorest community in Morogoro, might be small but it is incredibly mighty! In 2016 alone, Kinara (formerly called MOYODEI) reached 1085 people and held 1243 individual activity sessions, from sewing class in the morning to netball practices in the evening.

Safe and supportive spaces can be rare in the community. In 2016 Kinara (formerly called MOYODEI) staff welcomed two groups of children monthly to learn about hygiene, nutrition, and child rights, to receive basic health and school supplies, and to get together and have fun. What a day I had teaching and playing games with this energetic group!
